Christmas Visit to Openhands Welfare Home

On 18 December, 10 volunteers from WFWP Malaysia celebrated the Christmas festive season with the children of Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Openhands Fellowship in Kajang, Selangor. The operations manager of Openhands Home, Madam Rajeswari,  better known as Aunty Rajesh, welcomed the members of WFWP warmly. She explained the history and background of the home, which currently provides shelter for 13 children from broken families.

President of WFWP Malaysia, Madam Lina Cheng, in her speech, said that Christmas is about giving hope, love, sharing, and extending our hands to others. She thanked Openhands for allowing WFWP to visit and celebrate Christmas with the children and provide assistance with whatever resources were available. Food, household and essential items were handed over to the home.

Song Performance by Children
The children are performing the song with instruments.

The children had a really fun and exciting afternoon playing games with our volunteers and singing action songs led by our WFWP members. The fun games  required teamwork between the volunteers and children. The children also showcased their talents by performing a few songs with guitar and  piano. We really felt like a family, holding hands and singing Christmas songs together. The children’s joy doubled when Santarina suddenly appeared and distributed presents and candies to everyone.

Not only did the children enjoy the programme, so did the volunteers and home staff too. Joining such a social service activity for the very first time, one of the volunteers, Yan, expressed her excitement and delight. She is happy to have the opportunity to serve the community and practise sharing love with others. Our youngest volunteer, June, who is only 11 years old also enjoyed the visit, despite usually being shy and timid. She participated actively and joyfully throughout the programme, singing and playing together with everyone.

“This is my first time coordinating a project under WFWP, and I am very happy to receive a lot of response from generous sponsors to help us fulfill the children and home’s wishlist for Christmas. The event was very successful and I felt so touched during the last part of our dance, when everyone sang and danced together. This is really a festive event full of joy and love!” said Jenny who coordinated the visit.

Emcee, Ms Lew Wan Ting thanked all sponsors and volunteers for their generous support in making this event a success and bringing cheers, warmth and love to the children. The celebration concluded with delicious food and desserts contributed by donors and  well-wishers.
