An exciting Friendship and Cultural Exchange Programme was held to welcome 10 members of WFWP Korea Incheon Chapter on their visit to Malaysia. The one-day event, co-hosted by the Womenโs Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Malaysia along with Womenโs Holistic Leadership (WHOLE) Malaysia and Grooville Group, was held in Kuala Lumpur on 12th January 2024.
President of WFWP Malaysia, Mdm Lina Cheng, welcomed the guests warmly and expressed her hopes to foster unity and friendship between people transcending borders through cultural exchange programmes.
The first part of the programme was a food and culinary experience session held at Groovitiam Cafe. 30 participants consisting of members of WFWP Malaysia and our guests from Korea were treated to a fun hands-on experience in brewing Teh Tarik (Hand-pulled Milk Tea), decorating curry puffs with spiral edges and wrapping nasi lemak (creamy coconut rice).

Ms Khadijatul Azada, President of WHOLE Malaysia, gave a brief introduction on the famous Malaysian foods and drinks that the participants would be making during the session. The participants were later divided into smaller groups, and had a good time interacting with one another while being guided by experienced instructors from Groovitiam in the hands-on session.
Before adjourning for lunch, the participants took turns to present wonderful cultural performances, such as Malaysian folk songs, K-Pop dance and Korean songs. There was also a session of gift exchange between the local and international participants.

In the second part of the programme, the group visited the Jadi Batek factory for a traditional batik colouring class. Participants were fascinated to learn about the history and process of making batik, a method of decorating fabric by applying hot wax and dye. Each participant was then given the opportunity to unleash their creativity by filling the flower motives of the batik fabric with vibrant colours.

“As a Malaysian and nasi lemak lover, I have never wrapped a nasi lemak or had the chance to make my own favourite teh tarik. It was a very memorable experience. I feel very proud when introducing our local food to my new Korean friends,” Ms Ng.
“It was a very meaningful event to me. I learnt the beautiful culture of Malaysia through the food preparations and batek colouring. Thanks to the amazing organising team,” HwaJin.
