Story Telling Session

Building Bonds of Hope: WFWP and UKM Students Unite for Orphanage Outreach

WFWP Malaysia is pleased to join hands with the Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) ALSA UKM and United Nations (UN) UKM in organising a one-day visit to the Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Openhands Fellowship in Kajang, Selangor.
The home currently provides shelter for 13 children from broken families. The principal of the home, Madam Rajeswari, or Aunty Rajesh, welcomed the 32 volunteers warmly and thanked the organisers for organising this educational programme for the kids.
President of WFWP Malaysia, Madam Lina Cheng, in her speech, thanked ALSA for inviting WFWP to be part of the programme and encouraged the youths and children to engage in volunteer service as it not only gives back to the community but also boosts one’s self-esteem and sense of purpose.
One of the sessions was led by Mr. Simon Teo, a certified counsellor, who conducted an exciting story-telling session entitled “I’m the best”, guiding children towards self-actualisation. The children were then divided in pairs and asked to write down what skills or talents they are good at.
Handicrafts Making
Volunteers and children making handicrafts together
The children had a really fun and exciting afternoon doing handicrafts such as painting brick bears and making magic beads. These activities required creativity and teamwork between the volunteers and children. Everyone participated actively in the activities and also sang songs together. The children’s joy doubled when they received gifts sponsored by the organisers. There was also a birthday celebration for May babies.
